How to build a technical blog

How to build a technical blog

This blog post on building a technical blog was written by AI – learn more about AI blogging for your business.

First off, writing in the technical field isn’t a problem – it’s a gift. Don’t ever think any different. You just have to find your audience.

For starters, start submitting your blogs to news aggregation sites like TechSpy: Hottest Tech News & Rumors This will help get you links alongside reputable sites. Your blogs are a bit more technical than the newsy stuff they typically post, but tech people will understand what you’re talking about.

The next blog you write, instead of posting on your blog, send it to every tech blog you can find. Here’s a list of the top blogs: The Best Tech Blogs

Most simply won’t respond, but some will give you constructive feedback and either post your blog or give you an opportunity to pitch something else. Some will even pay you for your content, especially since you’re clearly an expert to use the words “Data structures” and “Fun” in a single sentence: Implementing Unique Data Structures in C For Fun and Profit!

Those that respond, track in a spreadsheet along with notes about what they look for, who to contact, etc. so you have an easy job aide to reference next time.

Those that don’t respond, keep pitching every blog you write. For a long time, before I posted anything on my site, I pitched it around different blogs. What I published on my own blog was only what nobody would accept.

Seek out the 2600 crowd, and join this 2600 Facebook group (if you don’t have a Facebook account, create a dummy account and join): Log into Facebook | Facebook

There are over 18,000 members of 2600’s Facebook group, and they love these kind of posts. Just make sure you read their rules and say a few words about the link. Don’t just post a link – tell people why they should read the article and try to make it sound like a reference instead of a promotion.

Also look for programming forums and articles related to what you’re blogging about. For example, look for javascript forums or anyone discussing pain points about combinatorics.js, algorithms, etc. and leave a comment on those sites describing how your article can help them, including a link.

Every link you post somewhere related will draw small amounts of traffic, and over time, those small amounts will add up.

Keep blogging. I posted a little over 100 blog posts before I started getting a steady stream of daily traffic. Many of my blogs only receive one hit a day or less, but I have enough popular ones that receive 100 or so that it all adds up to decent traffic to the site as a whole.

What you want to attract is organic search traffic, so make sure your site is registered with Google and Bing’s bots so they’ll crawl and index it. Then keep posting links everywhere that you know you’re resolving a problem.

If you build it, they will come…
